Can anyone tell me where to locate startup funding for small business opening by a female? Caucasion female I have recently purchased the entire stock and equipment from the only Live Bait and Tackle shop within a 25 mile radius. Large rural town with alot of streams, rivers, lakes, and ponds. High demand for Live Bait year round. Have researched Gov. Grants with no success. Have checked about an SBA loan and was told the business was too small to meet their requirements. Local banks want more collateral than I have available. Have been looking for a private investor as well with no luck. I have poor credit but everyone is in agreement that this would be a good business investment. There were four Live Bait and Tackle Shops in this area all successful. Due to retirement and death of the owners over the past two years the one I purchased was the last one in operation. The owner sold out to me because he was not willing to devote the amount of time necessary to operate this type of business successfully any longer. It was operating with a good profit line at that time. HELP

Business Idea & Funding? Hi I have a cracking business idea, I truly beleive it is would be very very profitable, and is something very unique, I have not seen anything like this before. I have spent a lot of time thinking about it, and have wrote out a business plan with all the details. My only problem is funding, I have no money as it is, other than what I spend to survive and get by each day. What are my best options to achieving what I want to setup, I have no money to pay a website to find a entrepreneur for me. I am from Scotland, and my idea would be a success in basically every country, US, UK, Australia, all of Europe etc, its not limited to one country. Regarding funding, well the website would be first, one for each additional country, all the same setup though, then after that there would be advertising / marketing costs and a merchant account. Other than this though my idea does not involve staff costs, it could be easily run by me and someone else. Any ideas? Thanks

Looking for sources to find business owners who need Equipment Financed for expansion/upcoming needs? I am a broker with a small firm in Colorado and we finance business owners who need equipment- ranging from trucks to refrigerators to computers and office furniture. I am getting mixed results with cold calling- I've had some success but it's tough hitting everyone at the right time. I have tried some other sources- mainly Craigslist- but it's been tough to manage as you can only post there so much. I know that there are thousands of businesses nationwide that would benefit from the banks and funding sources that we work with in the form of lower rates and service provided. My question is-What is the best way to find a prospective customer without calling and writing and generally irritating every business owner in the U.S.? What are the best ways for me to find business owners that I know are looking for funding? Are there websites dedicated to people seeking financing, like Prosper? Any help is greatly appreciated. Carla-it will be nearly impossible to find funding with low personal credit and being a startup.

I saw Fundraiser 1.0 on a website, but am not sure how it works. I do not yet have a website for my company, is that needed for Fundraiser 1.0? Has anyone had success with it, and if so, can you tell me how it works? OR, do you have contacts for angel investors or grants? Do you marry for Success or deep love? I and this girl in a relationship for about 4yrs. But honestly I'm a kind of person who always think about work, school and more serious about owning something so I never took the relationship serious. I have 5yr old boy living with his grand-mom. I've started a business yet living on paycheck makes me struggle to fund the business and not fully supporting my son as I had wanted to. This girl (4yr old relationship) is very respectful, humble, financially supportive, hard working and does good job both in the kitchen and on bed A+!! She has been too serious pushing for marriage. I have been denying her all the times and I even rejected the idea of moving-in prior to marriage. She has vowed to love my son, assist me in funding the business and all other things. Her attitude gave me no doubt and honestly most humble and respectful girl I have ever met. The pressure of moving-in got worse that she is threatening to end the relationshipand if I don't act by end of this month. Eveybody claim she is beautiful and I am 100% convinced that I will be ahead of life at my age if I allow her to move-in. But my worry is that, I DON'T FIND THE HER ATTRACTIVE ENOUGH FOR MARRIAGE. Friends who know both of us have been pushing me to allow the girl to move in giving the fact that success for both us will come sooner and my son will also enjoy a fatherly love. So I bowed to pressure to set an appoitment Monday (tomorro) to meet her parents for the necessary rites to allow her to move in. Deep down in me, I see the move-in as a marriage and that makes me worried instead of being happy. I stayed up all night thinking about canceling the whole engagement thing. Even though I'm strugling, I felt that it will be better to look for a more attractive girl than allowing this girl to move in hoping that the attractiveness will be stronger. What's your advice please?

Should he change over to business? He is 38+. Well educated, intelligent and ambitious. Went in for a good job in a remote area after his pass out with a professional degree. Left the job after three years to join a lesser job in a well connected place. Again left the job after three years to start a self employed unit (a small enterprise). The company did not fail but proved to be not viable. He wound it up after three years. He then underwent training in a new technique and got a job in a multi national company on handsome package. He left it after three years to join a better multi national on better package. Now this is again third year and he is fed up with the stereotyped job and feels stagnated particularly because some of his colleagues have outdone him due to their better communication skill and got themselves better placed. He can find another job but it will not be financially better job. Therefore, he wants to set up a new enterprise of his own with a novel idea but with just manageable funds. Success of this venture can take him to great height financially, which is his ambition. But its flop, may God help him, can send him years back and can demoralise too when he would have already crossed 40 with a family to support. His obsession is so strong that his family members including elders have no alternative except to support him for his proposed venture, but deep inside they wish he should drop the idea and wait for change of job for better one which they hope would eventually come. Any suggestion please.

How do I find Distributors and shops for my clothing line? A friend and me have been running our own Boardwear clothing line since 2002 and we have had some success locally considering our small budget. We have decided to take it one step further and would like to do this full time. we are currently selling our clothes through a single shop in our Town. My questions is, how do we get as many sales as possible quickly? How do we find International distributors and shops in the UK? Should we just attend all major Tradeshows? Also, any tips on getting funding (e.g. investors, loans: private or business loan?) are appreciated. The Pre-sales tip is good thanks but would shops pay you before even getting the goods? If not I would still have to come up with the Investment to produce it I guess and then cash in once we have delivered to shops. Also would people here rather take out a personal loan (is it easier to get??) or a business loan?

Is starting a hedge fund business the fastest way to become a billionaire via investing, and ........? I am 18, and have a very strong interst in the financial markets, especially the stock market. My next favourite is the currency market which I'm rather good at and then the commodities markets. I know that investing and trading a 2 seperate things. I also know that trading is more like speculating than investing and can carry a high degree of risk to your capital. I happen to have a plan however for the idea of how a good hedge fund could operate, and that is to invest into distressed assets such as undervalued stocks that will surely bounce back with time applying value investing techniques. I know that some hedge fund managers do this and I'm very inspired by their successes. My favourite guy here is David Teppen or whatever his name is who made $7 billion for his fund this year, 2009. What I would like to know is, is starting a hedge fund as such the fastest way to become a billionaire via investing in the financial markets? Please give a good reasonable answer. Thanks.
Need help with Business Communications class.? George and Wayne graduated from your school and later started their own business. Because they believed their education contributed to their success, they pledged $75,000 to the business division, payable at $7,500 a year. The only stipulation George and Wayne placed on their donation are that the funds be awarded to student groups through a competitive grant process, that students set the criteria for the awards, and that students decide who receives the awards. The head of the business program has asked you to form a five person committee charged with the task of setting the criteria for and announcing the grant opportunity. Prepare a clear, informal (memo, email) RFP that announces the grant oppurtunity.

Contacting businesses for donations? I am currently a full time college student w/ little income and I am interested in attending a week long success seminar where college students learn valuable skills involving goal setting, becoming leaders, planning a career path, etc. I need to earn $2000, however, to attend. I am not a non-profit org or anything like that, but as a student can I approach businesses for financial support/funding? And if so, can they write it off in their taxes, like a grant?
What are some creative ideas or suggestions that facilitate creating financial independence? I'm not interested in "Stock tips", Mutual funds or any other hands-off investing strategies. While I do participate in 401Ks, IRAs (traditional and Roth), and taxable brokerage accounts, I believe that I need other parallel asset building activities where I have a more active role in determining the return on investment. Investing in equities, bonds and the like leaves success up to a few corporate executives and the emotions of millions of weekend investors. I invest in companies and market sectors that I believe will grow in value, but I want more. If you had a few thousand dollars each month to use towards increasing your financial health/wealth, how would you use it? Again, I'd appreciate suggestions that do not include exchange based market investments. I'm looking more along the lines of a business venture. I'd most appreciate suggestions from those who are where I'd like to be (those who are financially free-a.k.a. work because they want to, not to pay the bills )
Rate and Check my success story? Dream Come True. During his time in education, Adam lacked motivation and the self-esteem to learn in some of the more chalk and board style lessons i.e. Science, English and Religious Education the lack of commitment lead him to losing his concentration and causing disruption within the class. Adam engaged in the more practical and interesting subjects like ICT and Business Studies as a result of this he gained A-C GCSE’s in these subjects. After leaving school Adam started on a 6 month IT computer course at Zenos in Wakefield, which he enjoyed a lot but as it was a short course, Adam completed it with no motivation to progress. This then lead him to spending 6 months at home with no commitment to his future and given a community sentence by the Youth Offending Team for using excessive violence which made him lose direction of his life. Adam had the idea that he could enrol on an e2e (entry to employment) course at Barnsley College just for the money (EMA) but this mentality soon changed when he was referred to the Youth Development for a work placement, 7 months ago Adam had a low self-esteem, no confidence and no motivation so Mark Garside (Chief Operational Officer) let him settle in and gradually increasing his work load in hope of helping Adam feel more comfortable and become more confident. Mark could see the potential that Adam and had a conversation with Adam. Adam told Mark he wanted to run his own business and thought it was impossible Mark assured him that he will help him make his dream come true if only Adam would work with him and changed his lifestyle. I am in such a fix, cant choose which business to pursue? I have just recently set up my Website based business/company. It was a dream of mine for nearly a year and finally its now a reality. I am looking forward to marketing it and hopefully making it a success someday. A few days back however, my dad passed away. He had his own business. Its been established for the last 20 odd years. He had a small brokerage firm and was a one man show. He would broker building materials for a commission and be the key person between the manufacturer and the buyer. Now, after his demise, the manufacturers are approaching me and asking me to carry the mantle. Frankly, the business wouldnt be difficult to get into, due to my dad's relationships with the buyers. Just the very fact that I am his son, would help in dealing with those buyers. There is a steady income from this business and it could support me for years to come like how it supported my dad. On the other hand, my website business was something I had conceptualized and I had worked hard to materialize. This is fairly unknown territory and is a new product in the market. I am taking a risk thats for sure, but there's a gut feeling that its gonna work. Its my dream. The problem is I now have the responsibility of having to take care of my mother. I have a fair amount of funds in the bank but they would dry up soon. So I could abandon my project and go for the safe route of doing my dad's business OR go all out and give it 100% for my Website business and see how far it takes me. There is ofcourse a lot of risk in the 2nd option but I would finally be living my dream, then again am I being irresponsible by taking that risk when I have my dear old mum depending on me now? Delegating someone else to do my dad's work may not work. The buyers are too attached to him and I am the key in his absence. It would be only a matter of time before they get totally comfortable with my just like my dad. Introducing someone new, may cause complications and is an uncertain route. I feel like I am in a catch 22 situation. Help me out folks!!
What do you think of this business idea.? The name of the business will be healing hummus (Double H for short). It will be a vegan fast food chain. I will focus on placing franchises in service areas along major highways. I feel there is a quickly growing market for this, and as I vegan myself, I want veganism to be more mainstream. The purpose of the business will be two-fold First, we will promote veganism. We will do this thought a once a year festival where we give free samples out. Secondly, we will try to make vegan's lives easier by having 100% vegan food. Non of our cooking surfaces or utensils will have been touched by animal produces. In order to be a success, in promotions we will focus on health, see as this is what main stream America is interested in. At the very least, I hope my actions in the fast food market will push my competitors to place a vegetarian and vegan options. Do I have a shot, I would like to launch in 4 years, right after I graduate from college. Can I get funds in that time.
Be honest... don't the Jews deserve success more than we Muslims do? I mean, they are very well organized, very well funded, very smart, and care very much about their own people. Muslims, by and large, are disorganized, lazy, illiterate, and don't care about anything except owning a business and making sure our kids have PHD's in something like engineering or medicine. Those of us who do have money, typically spend it on yachts, big houses, and a lexus or hummer. Im not saying there aren't many exceptions, but isn't this, in general, true? Salaam/Peace
Do you agree with Obama's Robin Hood way of funding his causes? And what are the causes he intends to fund with the money he has taken from those who have achieved success in a failing economy and are trying to keep their businesses alive which give jobs to America? Obama is naturally focused on taking wealth from those who have earned it and giving it to those who have not. t_bunson, I do not support McCain. I support Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party. http://www.constitutionparty.com/ moonshadow, I'm not wearing rose colored glasses. I couldn't find a job with health benefits for 4 years while illegals that Obama and McCain support took away the jobs that could have helped during that recession. Now I have a job which is paying $12,000 less than I made 8 years ago thanks to the greed of politicians and corporations who pay for them to be able to use illegals instead of citizens because they can get by with paying them minimum wages without benefits. Maybe you should take off your colored glasses and realize that the world is full of deception on many levels. That's why I'm voting for Chuck Baldwin. He's the only one who appears to be speaking the truth and is standing firm on our Constitutional rights - including the rights of unborn children who deserve the right to life - not painful deaths for convenience.

It is how managers use their communication skills and how they exploit the communication system that a business can succeed in a competitive market. MBA colleges in Delhi proactively invite guest lecturers, communication specialist, and public speakers to ensure that the students learn to manage communication skills effectively. However, what the students lack is practical knowledge that is so essential for business success. MBA colleges in Delhi especially cater to this aspect throughout the study session. There are practical hands-on applications, games, and simulation-based case studies for the students to apply their theoretical knowledge. Reputed MBA colleges in Delhi invite corporate people from time to time for interesting lectures. Additionally, there are summer camps, job-based project works to hone the managerial skills of the students. MBA colleges in Delhi address this issue in a greater depth. The portfolio of the student is packed with on-the-job learning of management techniques that also highlights the core managerial issues today. MBA colleges in Delhi have the ambience to address the needs of the corporate sector – and, that’s the reason why the students passing out from these institutes are so highly sought-after. ,
What is wrong with a person who no matter what they do legally to support their family they fail?IE.hold a job What is wrong with a person who no matter what they do legally to support their family they fail?ie.They can't hold onto a legitimate job, can't start their own legitimate business. What's wrong with a person who has the initiative and drive, to go back to College then has all sorts of obstacles that are not of their own doing , but they continue to persevere, however they still lack less than 20 hours from obtaining a Bachelor's degree ,and finally because they are not credit worthy they cannot get funds to continue their education, so in the end they can't complete the College Degree program. Yet , if they engage in criminal activity they seem to prosper beyond measure, and gain fiancially and economically, but as soon they try to use the money for a legitimate, positive purpose,or goal , they again fail. Are they just natural born criminals? or just spiritual and societal failures ie....LOSERS, and if so how can they stop being LOSERS? Is persistance the secret to success? I run a small business in my spare time importing goods from around the world and sell them locally. The money I bring in helps fund me while I study. Everything I do is legal and I go through the appropriate lagal steps, but even though I did everything according to the book, my package was held in customs for 2 weeks and they then charged me a large amount of tax and clearance fees. This was because the exchange rate dropped and sent the declared price of the goods above the allowed median. Some of the goods were damaged internally due to transit and now items have been sent back to me by customers. I will just scrape through with savings to pay people back etc. Now for my question... Should I dump this business or persist? If I persist and invest what money I have left, do you think it will pay off? Any other ideas will be apreciated.
Accumulating Money- Joseph read a lot about people who are success-oriented.? 1. He decided to test the numbers by seeing how much money he would accumulate by a retirement age of 65 if he put one paycheck away at the end of each year. Right now that would mean depositing 1,000 at year end for the next 35 years. Assuming he makes one yearly deposit of $1000 at 5% compounded annually, how much interest would he earn? Joseph was surprised at how large the sum would be and then realized that he would be able to put more money away in future years because most likely, his salary would go up. He also thought that he could invest the money over the long term at a higher interest rate, so he redid the calculations with $1,500 annual year end deposit at 8% for 35 years. What was his result? 3. Joseph was amazed at how much he could save in this manner and decided to design a detailed savings plan based on projected yearly increases. He realized that he could not start depositing $1,500 now, but that he would have able to deposit more than that in the future. If he were able to deposit $1,000 at the end of each yr for the next 5 yrs at 5% at 8% compounded annually, $1,500 at the end of yrs 6-10 at 8% compounded annually, and $2,000 at the end of the years 11 -35 at 5% compounded annually, how much would he accumulate at the end of 35 yrs? Assume that any balances from earlier depositing periods would continue to earn the same rate of annual interest. Use the table for future value of annuities. 4. By how much does the result differ from the amount calculated above for $1,500 deposited for 35 years? What accounts for the difference? 5. If Joseph decided that he wanted to have $300,000 accumulated in 30 years by making an annual payment at the end of each year that would earn 12% compounded annually, what would his sinking fund payment be? Is there a legitimate way to make alot of money online? We've all seen the scams, "make thousands of dollars from home each month with no degree by just clicking". Of course you always have to buy an instructional kit or pay some kind of fee to learn the details. While some of these really spend hours only telling you how much money they made, they allude to concepts such as posting ads for sites or owning a website of your own and being paid by companies for the advertising space. Even know we all know the sites putting this idea out there want your money (scamming you), the idea seems somewhat legit. Advertising is a powerful business that basically funds the television and entertainment industry. Companies pay billions to have their commercials on prime television networks and during prime events, and with so many people online why wouldn't they pay for it to be there too? Now they may not pay the millions that McDonald's does to have it's commercial during the superbowl but on a smaller scale I could see people making semi-decent salaries for a fraction of the work. The legitimate side of it, however, seems hard to break into. With so many out there trying to capitalize on the idea by scamming you into buying their "get rich quick" product, how can you break into this business? Has anyone had success with being paid for advertising online without getting scammed? Is there any way to do this? Or did a few people get lucky when it was new and now it's just deflated to where it's no longer profitable? To be honest I'm not even thinking it's possible to make alot, though I could possibly believe that with legit contacts someone could work independently in internet advertising from home and make 30-40k per year. Anyone have any real insight?
Which of the following paths will lead to the greatest financial/rewarding success after a B.S. degree? 1. Having one's company pay for an MBA on a part-time basis (~3 years; must stay an additional 2 yrs with company with little to no salary bump or job promotion) 2. Paying for an MBA full-time (~2 years; take out loans but not geographically-challenged, possibly greater jobs/salary out there) 3. Either (1) or (2) PLUS 1-2 more advanced degrees on a part-time basis (Pay out of pocket; no company reimbursement). JD (Law) degree and/or CPA (Accounting) degree. 4. Just pursue MBA part time with company paying for it (i.e. no debt load) and invest heavily in things like mutual funds, stocks, bonds, real estate, etc. To wrap it up, what makes the most sense- degree-chasing to be well-respected, highly educated, and well-rounded in business OR heavy investment in appreciable assets?
I'd like to know your take on the signal that these Democrats are sending to these new recruits? Fathers of Marines Thank Rush; Democrats Undermine Their Kids Hey, Rush, real quick, I have a 17-year-old son who's a senior in high school, and he just enlisted in the Marines and he's heading off to Camp Pendleton this July. And he's raised some concerns and questions to me about the politics of the funding of the war. I'd like to know your take on the signal that these Democrats are sending to these new recruits. RUSH: Oh, I think the signal that they're sending to the new recruits is the same signal that they're sending to the current fighting force, and is the same signal that they are sending to our enemies overseas, that they can be counted on to secure defeat, if given the chance. They own defeat, Mark. Look it, it's worse than that. They can't permit victory politically. They simply cannot. They are so far out now from over the edge that even if there is victory, they can't even lay any claim to it or even say that they had a role and played any assistance in it. It's not that they're wedded to it now. For their political future, we must lose, and they must bring that about. I'll tell you what, your son is very perceptive, and all you need to do is see this smiling picture of Nancy Pelosi announcing this vote victory last Friday in the House of Representatives. The main thrust of that bill is to quit, to give up and lose by March 31st of 2008, and there she is just smiling like she's never been happier. CALLER: Rush, it's even come home to my wife and I knowing what he's up against, but we've encouraged him. He's had a lifelong dream of being a Marine, and we told him every day, "Hey, we're proud of you. You have a lot of family members that are proud of you. The nation is proud of you." Rush, probably all the listeners out there right now on this program are proud of all these people going in. RUSH: Oh, there's no question about it. Is your son...? Now, I know some people that are stationed in Afghanistan and Iraq, and they admit that they're affected by it. Sometimes their morale is down, but it doesn't affect the way they do their jobs. Your son is to be admired here. He's 17, and this is his dream, and he wants to do it. Here's another thing to consider. These people are not just against victory. They are against the military. The worst thing that can happen for them is military success. Your son obviously picks up on that but it hasn't changed his mind, has it? They haven't convinced him to give it up? CALLER: Rush, he wants to serve his country like there's no tomorrow. You know, it's amazing his mind at 17 years old, and we're proud of him. Rush, hey, it's always great to talk to you. If I could just give you one more closing comment, if you don't mind? I know the call screener said there is a timeline here. RUSH: Well, go ahead. The call screener is second in power to me. CALLER: Hey, Rush, there have been two people in my life who have been a great influence, yourself and President Reagan, and I'm on business, and I had to stop at a small town in Illinois called Eureka, Illinois. I don't know if you know the significance of Eureka. http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_032707/content/01125118.guest.html
What are your thoughts (part 2)? Invest in the Manufacturing Sector and Create 5 Million New Green Jobs * Invest in our Next Generation Innovators and Job Creators: Obama will create an Advanced Manufacturing Fund to identify and invest in the most compelling advanced manufacturing strategies. The Fund will have a peer-review selection and award process based on the Michigan 21st Century Jobs Fund, a state-level initiative that has awarded over $125 million to Michigan businesses with the most innovative proposals to create new products and new jobs in the state. * Double Funding for the Manufacturing Extension Partnership: The Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) works with manufacturers across the country to improve efficiency, implement new technology and strengthen company growth. This highly-successful program has engaged in more than 350,000 projects across the country and in 2006 alone, helped create and protect over 50,000 jobs. But despite this success, funding for MEP has been slashed by the Bush administration. Barack Obama will double funding for the MEP so its training centers can continue to bolster the competitiveness of U.S. manufacturers. * Invest In A Clean Energy Economy And Create 5 Million New Green Jobs: Obama will invest $150 billion over 10 years to advance the next generation of biofuels and fuel infrastructure, accelerate the commercialization of plug-in hybrids, promote development of commercial scale renewable energy, invest in low emissions coal plants, and begin transition to a new digital electricity grid. The plan will also invest in America's highly-skilled manufacturing workforce and manufacturing centers to ensure that American workers have the skills and tools they need to pioneer the first wave of green technologies that will be in high demand throughout the world. * Create New Job Training Programs for Clean Technologies: The Obama plan will increase funding for federal workforce training programs and direct these programs to incorporate green technologies training, such as advanced manufacturing and weatherization training, into their efforts to help Americans find and retain stable, high-paying jobs. Obama will also create an energy-focused youth jobs program to invest in disconnected and disadvantaged youth. * Boost the Renewable Energy Sector and Create New Jobs: The Obama plan will create new federal policies, and expand existing ones, that have been proven to create new American jobs. Obama will create a federal Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) that will require 25 percent of American electricity be derived from renewable sources by 2025, which has the potential to create hundreds of thousands of new jobs on its own. Obama will also extend the Production Tax Credit, a credit used successfully by American farmers and investors to increase renewable energy production and create new local jobs. New Jobs Through National Infrastructure Investment Barack Obama believes that it is critically important for the United States to rebuild its national transportation infrastructure – its highways, bridges, roads, ports, air, and train systems – to strengthen user safety, bolster our long-term competitiveness and ensure our economy continues to grow. * Create a National Infrastructure Reinvestment Bank: Barack Obama will address the infrastructure challenge by creating a National Infrastructure Reinvestment Bank to expand and enhance, not supplant, existing federal transportation investments. This independent entity will be directed to invest in our nation’s most challenging transportation infrastructure needs. The Bank will receive an infusion of federal money, $60 billion over 10 years, to provide financing to transportation infrastructure projects across the nation. These projects will create up to two million new direct and indirect jobs per year and stimulate approximately $35 billion per year in new economic activity. Technology, Innovation and Creating Jobs Barack Obama will increase federal support for research, technology and innovation for companies and universities so that American families can lead the world in creating new advanced jobs and products. * Invest in the Sciences: Barack Obama supports doubling federal funding for basic research and changing the posture of our federal government from being one of the most anti-science administrations in American history to one that embraces science and technology. This will foster home-grown innovation, help ensure the competitiveness of US technology-based businesses, and ensure that 21st century jobs can and will grow in America. * Make the Research and Development Tax Credit Permanent: Barack Obama wants investments in a skilled research and development workforce and technology infrastructure to be supported here in America so that American workers and communities will benefit. Obama wants to make the Research and Development tax credit permanent so that firms can rely on it when maki

What do you think of this letter and the author? If Republicans are to retain control of Congress this year, they need to return to the winning formula Ronald Reagan used to win his 1980 campaign and Republicans used in the successful 1994 Contract with America campaign to take control of the U.S. House for the first time in 40 years. This formula would require the Republicans to re-identify themselves with the values of the American people. House Republicans can create a winning agenda for November with eleven issues. (The Senate’s constitutional design, its institutional rules, and the center-left coalition currently dominating its agenda make it too slow to take action on the eleven but could benefit from a successful House effort). I call them the “American Eleven” because each issue defines the right solution, which not coincidentally enjoys overwhelming support from the American people. The American Eleven begins with our nation’s security. As President Bush emphasized this week in his September 11 address to the nation, America’s war against Islamic fascists is a struggle for civilization. Republicans in Congress must effectively demonstrate that they are the party doing what it takes to defeat our enemies. Republicans must force those who would retreat and withdrawal to bear the burden of defending their proposals. The full responsibility of undermining our alliances and strengthening our enemies must be placed on those who would seek peace at the cost of defeat and who would advocate weakness in the face of hatred and tyranny. First, it is impossible for the American people to believe that we are waging a serious campaign to defeat our enemies while our borders remain unprotected. Therefore, the House should pass a bill to secure our borders. Once passed, conservatives in the Senate should move everyday to bring it up for a vote, requiring its opponents to publicly explain why they are blocking efforts to keep terrorists from entering our country. Second, Republicans in Congress should pass legislation to equip the president with increased powers for tracking terrorists and conducting military tribunals. Third, Republicans must lift the nation’s national-security dialogue beyond Iraq and explain the reality that America is engaged in an emerging third world war which we are not yet winning. In this conflict, we face not only terrorist enemies like al Qaeda but terrorist states like Iran and North Korea. Iran actively supports terrorists and is seeking nuclear weapons. North Korea likely already has nuclear weapons. Both countries are developing their missile capabilities. With their words and deeds, the dictators of these two countries have been unambiguous in their enmity toward the United States. Americans should take very seriously the fact that North Korea deliberately ignored international warnings when on our Independence Day, it launched a ballistic missile that was developed to be capable of hitting the United States. Congress should hold hearings on the scale of the threat posed by both Iran and North Korea and commit America to replace these regimes — the only strategy that will ensure that they will be unable to threaten the United States. Our efforts should be directed to bringing about this change about through peaceful means, in the model Ronald Reagan so brilliantly used in Eastern Europe in the 1980s. In this context, Republicans must force those who seek to cut and run in Iraq to explain why a dramatically weakened America would not further embolden a defiant Iran, as it most assuredly would. Fourth, House Republicans should demonstrate that they have a “do-what-it-takes” attitude about energy independence. They should pass Rep. Jim Nussle’s (R., Iowa) bill on renewable fuels as well as a tax-incentives system toward the development of new automobile technologies that will help change the underlying nature of our energy economy. Fifth, Republicans must remind Americans that they are the party that protects America’s unique civilization against those who would radically redefine America. A good first step in this effort would be to pass legislation to protect the right to say “one nation under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance. Our founding political document — the Declaration of Independence — asserts that we are “endowed by our creator with certain unalienable rights.” It is an attribute fundamental to the cultural DNA of America. But since the 1963 Supreme Court decision outlawing school prayer, the courts have steadily waged a 43-year assault on the core values of American liberty. It is time to return to a balanced constitutional system in which there is no constitutional case for five appointed lawyers on the court to act as if in a permanent constitutional convention. Sixth, while Americans have always respected and honored a diversity of languages throughout the country, we should embrace English as the language necessary for success in America. Congress should pass a bill making English the official language of government, abolishing multilingual ballots, and reaffirming that new citizens should be required to pass a test on American history in English. Despite what the elite media may report, there are no anti-English congressional districts. Seventh, Congress should move a bill requiring voters to present a photo ID card in order to vote. We must make certain that only legal U.S. citizens are voting. The bill should provide a mechanism for those without a valid photo ID to obtain one from their state for free. A photo ID for voting would be a huge step toward ensuring honest elections, strengthening our democratic system, and upholding the value of American citizenship. The final set of initiatives in the American Eleven reasserts that Republicans are the party of taxpayers instead of the party of tax spenders. Eighth, the House should force the Senate to vote on repealing the death tax, for good. It should pass the bill every week attaching it to various Senate bills until the Senate adopts it. It is simply un-American to ask a grieving family to visit the tax collector and the undertaker in the same week. The death tax destroys family businesses that, in the long run, collectively produce far more tax dollars to the government than the death tax ever collects. The death tax is like killing the goose that is laying America’s economic golden eggs and we should abolish it. Ninth, the Congress should take steps to restore the property rights that were undermined by the Supreme Court’s Kelo decision that weakened citizen protections against the federal government’s eminent-domain power. Expanding the power of local governments to seize private property simply invites corruption. This decision will almost certainly lead to abuse at the expense of the citizenry’s property rights, especially those of the poor. Congress should pass legislation that restores the constitutional law to pre-Kelo rules and blocks the Supreme Court from reviewing this new law in the future. Tenth, Congress should pass legislation to control spending with a step-by-step plan for returning to a balanced budget in seven years (the length of time we gave ourselves after winning the majority in 1994). In the mid-1990s, we balanced the budget for the first time in a generation and we did it four years in a row. We were able to achieve a balanced budget while cutting taxes and increasing defense and intelligence spending. Balancing the budget is not just a political issue; it is a moral issue because it forces politicians to set priorities. If politicians continue to spend as if they had open-ended credit with no consequences, then “yes” is the answer to every special-interest request — which is how we ended up with the current absurdly bloated, undisciplined federal budget. Finally, Congress should tie education funding to school accountability. The No Child Left Behind law is making it blaringly obvious just how many schools are crippling and destroying children. We should save the children. Congress should require school systems to institute metrics-based performance standards in order to receive federal funding to ensure that every child is getting the education that they deserve. House Republicans have two months to change history. With the American Eleven, they have a chance not only to save their majority in Congress, but also to return the Republican party to the center-right populist values of Ronald Reagan and the Contract with America. They can bring back the Reagan-Contract formula of listening to the American people and identifying with their values. The choice is theirs — and ours. Author = Newt Gingrich
Do people realize how much money we could save on healthcare if we would reform the way we license doctors? Sorry about the length... I promise it is worth the read! *********************************************** Besides paying some of the highest prices for health care, we have the dubious distinction of having the most heavily regulated healthcare system in the world. In no other country on earth are doctors and hospitals subjected to as many oversight and enforcement agencies, bureaus and commissions. Rules, regulations, and laws are duplicated, redundant, multiplied, magnified, and contradictory. Laws and regulations covering doctors and hospitals plus all the other parts of our healthcare system now account for over half of all the words, sentences, and paragraphs in our entire body of law. If regulations could make a healthcare system work better, ours would surely be perfect. In fact, the opposite has occurred. Even those who believe that only government regulation can assure quality health care should face this fact. More laws and regulations are not going to fix our system. If we are truly concerned about the high cost of health care, if we really desire greater safety and higher quality, then we must undertake a dispassionate analysis of the current mess. If we wish to begin effective treatment of our healthcare system, we must first make an accurate diagnosis.... We have to go very far back to the first meeting of what would become the American Medical Association. This meeting was held in New York City in 1846. Twenty-nine allopathic doctors (MDs) attended the meeting. They wanted to establish a monopoly over health care in the United States for those doctors that practiced higher quality medicine, such as themselves. They felt there were too many different kinds of doctors practicing too many questionable forms of medicine. They wanted only doctors that conformed to their brand of medicine to be allowed to practice. They wished to set up their association as a medical elite and obtain a government-enforced monopoly over health care in the United States. The following year the AMA was officially launched. Members' efforts were at first slow to yield results. One of their first successes was in getting the exclusive right to positions in the federal government. Then, around 1870, the AMA began to find success at setting up medical boards in each state... Soon after the medical monopoly was formed it began to push its agenda of destroying all competition. A well organized and funded nationwide purge of all non-MDs was undertaken. Over the course of the first half of the twentieth century this medical monopoly managed to shut down over forty medical schools. Their idea was to keep the number of doctors low in order to keep fees up. After WW II the medical monopoly started rigidly controlling how many of each medical specialty it would allow to be trained. So ophthalmologists, orthopedists, dermatologists, obstetricians, and others began to be in short supply. And of course when supplies are low, fees are high. The medical monopoly also managed to outlaw or marginalize over seventy healthcare professions. Protection of the healthcare consumer was, as always, the rationale for this power grab. Whether the object of destruction by the medical monopoly be homeopaths, midwives, chiropractors, or internet prescribers, the purge is conducted in the same manner. No scientific proof or research data is offered to discredit these practitioners. The entire approach is one of character assassination directed at their profession. On one occasion the medical monopoly did try to behave "scientifically," but this approach backfired: They tried to show that obstetricians achieved a lower infant mortality rate than did midwives, but when the data was compiled it showed the reverse was true—midwives had the better record. The medical monopoly quickly abandoned this approach and returned to their proven method of buying lawmakers and writing nasty unsubstantiated accusations in their journals. It seems the public always falls for propaganda that promises greater consumer safety... We should strongly consider abolishing state medical boards. Do we really need an additional and separate secret police for doctors? If we elect to keep the state medical board system, then governors should not be allowed to appoint doctors to medical boards or pharmacists to boards of pharmacy. This is like putting the foxes in charge of henhouse security! If these are supposed to be consumer protection agencies, then staff them with consumers. The ideal board member is the owner-operator of a small business. Such boards could consult anyone they wish for technical or professional advice. I am sure that the Federal Trade Commission has looked at this, probably more than once. The legal problem is that the AMA does not directly intervene in the marketplace. The medical monopoly is cleverly divided up into numerous components with legal separations that make it nearly impossible to mount an effective antitrust case. Th The AMA makes sure that it stays at arms length from the state medical boards and even has the Federation of State Medical Boards in between. The communication, cooperation, and even conspiratorial planning between the components of the medical monopoly are unquestionable, but such contact is always couched in terms of protecting the public. If, however, the state medical board system were abolished, or disempowered, the medical monopoly would suffer a fatal blow. Cut off the small head of a giant rattlesnake and the huge body of the snake is rendered harmless. The beneficial effect of such action to healthcare consumers, American workers, and the economy would be enormous and immediate. Less appreciated would be an even more important effect: The breakup of the medical monopoly would go a long way toward taking American medicine out of its current political orientation and back into its proper scientific orientation. http://mises.org/story/1749 I can't even imagine how far "innovative doctors" could lower prices for their patients if they were only allowed to do so. I am in Medical School and would love to see the changes made to the system that the article above speaks of.
