What would it be filed under? the initial 10,000 it got back would be recorded as return of capital, but what about the other 10,000? Thanks!

Are capital gains on investments abroad taxed in NZ? Say I acquire New Zealand citizenship and eventually retire there. If I have a tidy sum invested in a variety of US Exchange-Traded Funds which I just hold forever (liquidating little bits here and there to pay living expenses), are the capital gains taxable under NZ law? What if the money were in a US-based hedge fund instead that generates annual short and long-term capital gains?

Capital gains tax question regarding investments? Hi I'd like to know if one has to pay taxes on capital gains when: After selling a security (stock, bond, commodity, currency, etc) and gaining profit from it you re-invest your profit within say another four months or so? If all the profit is then re-invested do you have to still pay taxes? Thanks
How about 75% Capital Gains tax on oil investments held under 180 days, 50% on under 730 days? 0% capital gains after that. I believe that speculation in the oil markets have had a huge affect on the price of oil and gasoline. I believe that creating a devastating capital gains tax on oil investments, forcing longer term investments, would result in lower oil costs. And don't bother propagandizing me with the idea that day trader investments result in increased capital investment, improving the Corporate economic outlook. I have a very good understanding of economics. I am well aware that it would cause a short term disruption in investment trading. It would also raise a bunch of money for the United States government in the short term. Socialist? Not in your wildest dreams. Small Business never benefits from speculative investment. Small Business typically benefits from Capital Investors. CI's invest between 100K and 1 Mil for returns within 7 to 10 years of between 500K and 4 Mil. A Capital Gains tax on oil would not have any effect on small business investment, even small oil based business. I disagree with making things illegal to prevent people from doing it. Waste of time, it just drives the market underground creating a black market. Smith had some good ideas, but, I like John Maynard much better. Run the ratio of annual oil, gasoline, energy costs to annual income (real dollars) for the last fifty years, determine the ratio and the STDDEV of the ratio. Supply and demand tells us that the costs have to fall within the typical ratio or the demand will change based on the costs. Essentially energy costs must stabilize within their typical range. This means that alternative energy systems will be developed to reduce energy costs to the typical range or the current energy systems will fall in costs to their typical range. Or the market will die. By tossing a cost into speculative trading the demand for speculative trading will change forcing longer term stabilization.
What good is it toshuffle capital investments from oil to coal or naturalgas when these fossil fuels R linked? Fully-worded Q is this: What good is it to shuffle capital investments and labor from oil to coal or natural gas when these fossil fuels are price-linked ? Also being carbon fuels they, when combusted, add to atmosphere's CO2 concentration level and increased thermal energy retention. (ie Global Warming). Pls avoid politically-based useless responses-only economic-based-on science comments are wanted! All human activities involve politics of course, but the non-bipartisan BS is bad politics and I am sick of it. In The almost 8 years of the Bush43 Administration and too many Republicans and Democrats have played dirty and loose with science research and the use of scientific knowledge and reasoning meant to guide public policies that solve the science-based problems facing us! I do not believe in point solutions to equations that contain multiple variables and many initial conditions and constraints. Nor do I like oversimplications that leave out real true costs like negative externalities in the problem. Leaving out CO2 issues, particulates issues and other byproduct remediation issues gives false soutions. My Q deal with the energy sources in BTU or KWH equivalents and other kinds of issues. My Q is a fundamental strategic energy Q that I raise in this category bec I see no other suitable category audience to ask! Political and Risk in all forms is a complex subject that can affect one's answer. This means expenses for buying insurance of many kinds including war premiums on cargoes & transportation, environmental damage from accdents, and catastrophic losses etc. The issue of risk vs reward, costs vs profits are very important but insurance is usually not one of the determining cost variables. These reflection do not come from academic theorizing but real micronomic understanding of energy economics incl trading and operating experience.
what are some investments that someone with 50,000 liquid can invest in that will preserve capital? I am looking for a place like a cd account that preserves/garantees principle. I have seen a couple mortgage companies likehttp://www.axiomrealtycapital.com/ http://www.rescapfunds.com/ that say they will preserve your capital. The reason I do not want to invest in cd account is because it offers to low of returns that are useless due to inflation and taxes. I do not care if they don't offer fixed returns but as long as my principle investment stays secured I will be happy. And the "possible" return is greater than a cd account.

Capital investment and cash flow for a business for sale - what do these mean? Saw an ad for a business for sale, one of the things mentioned was "no capital investment required" - does this mean that in order to take over the business, from a financial point of view, one would only need the means to purchase the business (not including insurance, permit and license fees, etc). And, when cash flow is listed, I'm not sure what that means exactly - I assume this means the amount of money the business has on hand to cover operating costs ; but what I'm not sure of is how this would benefit the buyer - except to demonstrate that the business has been a successful and financially viable operation?
