Can anyone recommend a good book about Private Equity?
I'd prefer not to have to read a text book but I recently started working in the finance industry and I was an international affairs major, so I don't have much background info. I'm really looking to get a better understanding of the private equity market and its inner workings so a good book suggestion would be a big help in getting me there!

- PrivateEquityCentral.net is a leading source of news and data about private equity funds, deals and people. The site is updated regularly and made free but available exclusively to accredited individual and institutional investors. http://www.privateequitycentral.net/
- Read "Barbarians at the Gate". It is a little dated (late 1980's), but the lessons are the same. It is also a very entertaining book! The book recounts the story of the buy-out of RJR Nabisco, and the bidding war that ensued between private equity firms. Lots of behind the scenes accounts.
- While I do not have a specific book recommendation, you might try visiting www.privateequityinfo.com. There is a short article on the site that discusses private equity. You can also view some private equity firms via the online demo.
